Isabella, three caravels and a charlatan

The satire Isabella, three caravels and a charlatan (Isabella, tre caravelle e un cacciaballe) by Dario Fo , which belongs to the literary genre of tragic comedy , takes place in Spain and was written in 1963.

The comedy tells the story of an actor who waits in front of a gallows for his pardon. The condition for the pardon is that he repeats the play for which he was convicted. So the gallows becomes a playing area.

The play he is staging tells the story of Christopher Columbus , who wants to raise money for his exploration of India at the court of Queen Isabella of Castile and King Ferdinand . The play also tells of Columbus 'voyages by ship and the supposed discovery of America (which according to the play actually took place by one of Columbus' sailors). Columbus is portrayed in this piece as a rogue egoist who is only concerned with his own benefit.

Many details of the actual recorded story have been incorporated into this piece. Ferdinand's victory over Granada is also dealt with, and many of these people also existed in the history of the discovery of America, which we know.
