Isargau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Isargau - Bayerische Heimat- und Volkstrachtenvereine eV is an umbrella organization (Gauverband) based in Munich . Bavarian mountain and folk costume clubs are affiliated with the Gauverband. The current district director is Michael Unruh.

history

The Isargau was founded on December 14th, 1919 at one of the oldest Munich traditional costume clubs, the "Almrausch Stamm" in the teachers' hall of the "Colosseum" on Jahnstrasse in Munich. Eleven clubs formed the basis of the new Gau, which quickly grew through further recordings. Two world wars brought the work of the traditional costume clubs almost to a standstill, but at a constituent meeting on August 18, 1946 in the Franziskanerkeller in Munich, a new beginning was made and the Isargau experienced a slow but steady reconstruction. The area of the Isargau extends in the near and far surroundings of Munich and the Isar to beyond Landshut . The Gau currently has 62 associations with around 8,000 members and is a member of the Bavarian Costume Association . The Gau has set itself the task of maintaining and promoting the purity of the Miesbacher, Werdenfelser, Berchtesgaden, Jachenauer, Lenggrieser, Ruhpoldinger and Inntaler mountain costumes as well as the Dachauer, Dorfen, Markt Schwabener, Wartenberger and Lower Bavarian folk costumes . Numerous vocal and folk music groups as well as youth groups testify to the firm will to hold on to good old customs. Some clubs also have a permanent amateur theater group or perform plays on special occasions.
