Ishizuka Tomoji

Ishizuka Tomoji ( Japanese 石 塚 友 二 ; born September 20, 1906 in Sasaoka , Niigata Prefecture ; † February 8, 1986 in Kamakura ) was a Japanese haiku poet and writer.

Ishizuka came to Tokyo in 1924, where his friend Naka Kōhei introduced him to the novelist Yokomitsu Riichi as a student . As a haiku poet, he joined the group around Hasegawa Reiyoshi . Since 1933 he published haikus in the magazine Ashibi ( 馬 酔 木 ), which was directed by Mizuhara Shūōshi . At the same time he began to work for the publishing house Tembōsha , the magazine Buntai ( 文体 ) to publish and joined the group of writers Hotaka Tokuzo .

In 1935 he founded the publishing house Sara and published works by Yokomitsu Riichi , Kawabata Yasunari , Nakamura Kusatao and Ishida Hakyō . With Ishida he founded the haiku magazine Tsuru ( ). With the publication of his anthology Hōsun Kyojitsu ( 方寸 虚 実 ) in 1940 Ishizuka gained recognition as an important haiku poet. Since 1942 he was also known as a novelist. After Ishida's death in 1969, he became head of Tsuru magazine.
