Isidor Obermayer

Isidor Obermayer (born 1783 in Kriegshaber ; died 1862 in Augsburg ) was a German banker and a pioneer of the railway industry.

Isidor Obermayer was born in 1783 to Jakob Obermayer (1755–1828) and Ida Oppenheimer (1765–1845) in Kriegshaber. In 1811 his wife Nanette Obermayer (née Kusel) (1794–1856) gave birth to their son Carl Obermayer . A year later, their daughter Henriette Obermayer (1812–1885) was born.

Isidor Obermayer was a successful exchange dealer and acquired the Litera A 28 property (today Maximilianstrasse 69) in 1821. A year later he was given access to the Augsburg Stock Exchange . Among other things, due to his influence, the Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechsel-Bank was founded . Obermayer was also significantly involved in the construction of the railway line between Munich and Augsburg . As a member of the Munich-Augsburger Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , he not only supported the construction of the line with financial means, but also took care of the purchase and transport of the rails and locomotives. Later he also participated in the construction of further railway lines.

After his death in 1862, Obermayer was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Kriegshaber .
