Islay Home Farm buildings

Islay Home Farm is a working farm in the Scottish town of Bridgend on the Hebridean island of Islay . The buildings are part of the Islay House estate and are located approximately 100 m to the east from it. On July 20, 1971, the buildings were placed on the Scottish List of Monuments in Category C.

description

The buildings, which date from the later 18th century, surround an almost square inner courtyard, some of which are closed, some of which stand alone. In the southwest a gateway leads to the courtyard, above which a bell tower with a finial was once enthroned. Today there is only one clock left. The entire building flank measures around 51 m. The two-story stables and storage buildings as well as the pigeon house are located along the southwest flank. On the south corner there are two cowsheds in the inner courtyard, which end with hipped roofs . This is followed by other residential and farm buildings, some of which are grouped, some of which surround the inner courtyard. All buildings are plastered using the traditional Harling technique.
