The Isle aux Morts River is an approximately 35 km long river in the southwest of the island of Newfoundland, which belongs to the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .
River course
The Isle aux Morts River has its origins in a small nameless lake at an altitude of 390 m , about 7 km east of Little Codroy Lake . The river initially flows 6.5 km in a south-easterly direction. There are several smaller lakes along the river. The Isle aux Morts River then turns south. The Route 470 crosses the river 3.5 km above the mouth. The river finally flows into the Atlantic Ocean 2 km west of the municipality of Isle aux Morts and 10 km east of Channel-Port aux Basques . The Isle aux Morts is located in front of the estuary .
Hydrology
The Isle aux Morts River drains an area of about 210 km². The mean discharge is 13.7 m³ / s. In May the river carries the largest amount of water with an average of 31.2 m³ / s.
Fish fauna
The stock of Atlantic salmon in the river system of the Isle aux Morts River is considered "endangered" according to NASCO.
