Islington (Toronto Subway)
Islington is an underground subway station in Toronto . It is on the Bloor-Danforth Line of the Toronto Subway , at the intersection of Bloor Street and Islington Avenue. The station has a central platform and is used by an average of 37,410 passengers every day (2015).
There is a major bus terminal above Islington Station . From here, 18 Mississauga Transit bus routes operate on various routes to the neighboring city of Mississauga to the west ; it is also served by three bus routes operated by the Toronto Transit Commission . There are also three park-and-rides available to commuters with a total of 1,282 paid parking spaces.
Immediately west of Islington, the line comes to the surface and then follows the main line of the Canadian Pacific Railway . To the east, the route also briefly runs above ground, as Mimico Creek is crossed there on a bridge. The station opened on May 10, 1968, along with the Keele - Islington section. For more than twelve years this was the western terminus of the Bloor-Danforth Line. The extension to the Kipling station was opened on November 22, 1980.
