Ismênia Coaracy

Ismênia de Araújo Coaracy (born December 19, 1918 in Sertãozinho , São Paulo , Brazil ) is a Brazilian painter , draftsman , illustrator and teacher .

Coaracy began painting in 1946. She studied at the Museum of Modern Art Crafts School of São Paulo (MAM) from 1956 to 1958 engraving with Livio Abramo, wall painting with Clovis Graciano and art history with the art historian Wolfgang Pfeiffer . In 1958 she belonged to the Guanabara group with Arcângelo and Tomás Ianelli, Tikashi Fukushima, Wega Nery and Manabu Mabe . Around 1960 she studied with Paulo Duarte, ceramics and sculpture with André Osze. She made illustrations for the newspapers Estado , Folha de S. Paulo and for the magazine Leitura , learned pottery and wall painting and taught painting in the Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo. In 1962 she studied painting with Clovis Graciano at the Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP). From 1973 to 1974 she produced four films in Super 8 format. From 1963 to 1967 she exhibited her works at three São Paulo biennials and at group exhibitions abroad.
