The Ismail Somoni Monument is one of the most striking structures in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe .

The memorial commemorates Ismail I , who as emir led the Samanid Empire in Central Asia to great power in the 10th century and is considered a national hero in Tajikistan . The memorial was erected in 1999 on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the Samanid Empire.

location

The monument stands in the center of the Tajik capital on Friendship Square , east of the Warsob River . Rudaki Park and the Tajik Parliament are in the immediate vicinity of the monument .

construction

The monument consists of an arch more than 25 meters high, on the highest point of which a crown is placed as a symbol of power. In front of this arch there is the statue of Ismail I on a pedestal that can be reached via red marble steps. On the side of the staircase there are two cross-legged lions. The statue holds the gilded coat of arms of Tajikistan in the right hand .
