Isolde Schmitt-Menzel

Isolde Schmitt-Menzel (* 1930 in Eisenach ) is a German designer, author, illustrator, graphic artist and ceramist. Isolde Schmitt-Menzel is the inventor of the " mouse ".

Life

Isolde Schmitt-Menzel studied book and font graphics as well as free ceramics at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle . She then did an internship in Walter Popp's ceramic workshop in Dießen am Ammersee . Then she went to the Werkkunstschule Offenbach am Main .

In 1968 she drew picture stories for the first time for the Hessischer Rundfunk and from 1969 also for the Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). From a book illustration “Die Maus im Laden”, “Die Maus” was developed together with the WDR. In 1971, the first program was broadcast with the mouse . The porcelain manufacturer Rosenthal has been successfully converting Schmitt-Menzel's mouse pictures into children's porcelain sets since 1998 .

Schmitt-Menzel wrote and illustrated over 35 books. She lives and works as a freelance artist, initially in Cologne and Frankfurt and from 1971 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe as well as in Texas and southern France .
