history

The newspaper was founded in 1935 by the Berlin businessman Siegfried Blumenthal under the name S. Blumenthal's private correspondence and initially appeared in hectographed form. The name was changed to Blumenthal's Latest News in 1936 and to Jedioth Chadashoth ("Latest News") in 1943 . After Blumenthal's death in 1949, his heirs initially continued the newspaper. In 1974 the publishing house of the Labor Party for foreign language publications, Pirsumim , took over the editing . Since then, the newspaper has appeared under the name Chadashoth Israel ("Israel News"). In the 1990s, the Israel News was sold to the Moroccan entrepreneur George Edre.

In 1950 the newspaper was one of the best-selling in all of Israel with a circulation of around 25,000 copies. In the 1990s, the team around Alice Schwarz-Gardos, known at the time as the world's oldest acting editor-in-chief, sold around 7,000 newspapers during the week and 10,000 on Friday. The print run was 4,000 copies in 2005 and then fell further. In 2010 it was switched to a weekly publication before the newspaper was discontinued in January 2011 for economic reasons.

In August 2012, publisher Dean Grunwald acquired the rights to Israel-Nachrichten. With a new editorial team and a new concept, he brought out the first online edition in January 2013.

The newspaper's columnists have been a. Max Brod , Arnold Zweig , Shalom Ben-Chorin and Henryk M. Broder .
