Israel Grodner (born around 1840 in Lithuania ; died 1887 in London ) was a Yiddish actor, singer and theater director.

Life

Israel Grodner was born into a Jewish family in Lithuania in the Russian Empire . He became a member of the Yiddish Broder Singers , with whom he toured Russia and Austria.

In 1876 he was the main actor in Abraham Goldfaden's theater in Iași in its first Yiddish theater performances. Soon afterwards he founded his own Yiddish theater in Iași . Joseph Latiner wrote the scenarios for him .

In 1883 he went to London after the ban on Yiddish theaters in Russia. There he played in the ensemble of Jacob Adler . After a while he went to Galicia, where he founded his own theater, with which he a. a. toured in Vienna, Warsaw and London. He died in London in 1887.
