Israel Hasson ( Hebrew ישראל חסון; * April 27, 1955 in Damascus , Syria ) is an Israeli politician and former deputy director of the Israeli domestic secret service Shin Bet (שב). Hasson was (until 2014) a member of the Knesset , the Israeli parliament.

life and work

Hasson was born in Syria but emigrated to Israel at the age of seven. For almost 23 years he was a member of the Israeli domestic secret service Schin Bet in various positions and was active, for example, in the recruitment of new agents and as the commander of various military operations, for whose services he has received several awards. In addition, he also acted as Israeli envoy to the Middle East, took part in negotiations on the Wye Agreement , participated in agreements on the status of Taba and Hebron, and accompanied Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak at a meeting with PLO leader Yasser Arafat to resolve the Israeli Palestinian conflict at Camp David .

From 1997 to 1999 he was finally appointed deputy director of the intelligence service under Ami Ajalon . After Avi Dichter was appointed the new head of Schin Bet in 2000, Hasson resigned from his position and founded an energy company.

In 2006 he was elected to the 17th Knesset as a candidate for Jisra'el Beitenu .

He caused heated controversy at the end of April 2007 when he warned the Jewish population of Israel on the occasion of the 59th Independence Day of a possible violent conflict with the Arab population. Literally he spoke of a "new war of independence".

In 2008 he moved to Kadima .
