Israeli Mathematical Union

The Israel Mathematical Union (IMU) is the Israeli mathematical society. Since 1991 she has been a member of the European Mathematical Society . It has about 300 members (2003).

In Israel there is an intensive mathematical research with eight main universities ( Hebrew University in Jerusalem, University of Haifa , Technion in Haifa, Bar Ilan University , Ben Gurion University of the Negev , Tel Aviv University , the Graduate School of Weizmann Institute , Open University) and five mathematical journals (Israel Journal of Mathematics, GAFA, Journal d´Analyse Mathematiques, Israel Mathematical Conference Proceedings, Integral Equations and Operator Theory). The IMU changes its leadership every two years, which comes from one of the main research universities.

The IMU annually awards the Wolf Prize (in mathematics) and the Erdős Prize and holds an annual two-day meeting.
