The European Mathematical Society ( EMS ; english European Mathematical Society ) is a scientific society to promote the development of all aspects of mathematics in the countries of Europe . It was founded in 1990 in Madralin near Warsaw ( Poland ). In 2005, members of the society were around 50 mathematical societies in Europe such as the German Mathematicians Association , the Austrian Mathematical Society , the Swiss Mathematical Society and the Polish Mathematical Society, as well as around 2000 individuals.

Every four years it organizes the European Congress of Mathematicians , at which the EMS Prizes and the Felix Klein Prize of the EMS are awarded.
