Issaka Souna

Issaka Souna (* 1954 in Niger ; also Issaka Sounna ) is a Nigerien lawyer and election expert.

Issaka Souna was President of the Niger Bar Association . From November 7, 1991 to March 27, 1992 he was Minister of Justice in the government of Prime Minister Amadou Cheiffou . In the 1999 parliamentary elections in Niger , he served as chairman of the independent national electoral commission. Souna worked for the United Nations Office in West Africa and the United Nations Development Program in assisting the conduct of elections. From August 2011 to December 2012, he was Director of the Elections Department of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire . He also coordinated election observers in Madagascar and judicial reform programs of the European Union in Niger. Souna also worked as an election expert for the International Organization of Francophonie . In 2015, he was Deputy Head of the United Nations Election Observation Mission in Burundi . Souna is married and has four sons and three daughters.
