life and work

István Csákány studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts with Dóra Maurer .

His work The Amber Room (2010) is a home workshop, carved entirely from wood, rich in details and devoid of people. The title is an ironic reference to the Amber Room of Frederick I .

The installation The Sewing Room (2012) was exhibited at dOCUMENTA (13) . In The Sewing Room , a number of elegantly dressed figures stand next to the somewhat larger-than-life machines, tools, cables and neon tubes made of wood. Thematically it is about work, its products and the concept of absence.

Csákány exhibits nationally and internationally. He received several awards. Csákány was artist in residence in Atelierfrankfurt in 2010 and received a scholarship from Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2014 .
