Ivan Moravec
Ivan Moravec (born November 9, 1930 in Prague ; † July 27, 2015 there ) was a classical pianist.
Life
Ivan Moravec studied piano at the Prague Conservatory with Erna Grünfeld, a niece of Alfred Grünfeld . In 1948 he won first prize in the piano competition here. He continued his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (where he later taught himself) with Ilona Štěpánová-Kurzová and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli in Italy.
Moravec had his first public appearance in 1959 with the Czech Radio Orchestra; In the same year he made his international debut with the New Philharmonic Orchestra under Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt in London. 1964 brought him to the United States for the first time; here he played, under the baton of George Szell , with the Cleveland Orchestra .
In addition to his concert tours and teaching, Moravec has often acted as a juror in international competitions; his recordings have won numerous awards.
