Ivar Holmquist

Ivar Holmquist (* 1879 in Helsingborg ; † 1954 ) was a Swedish sport functional . He was the first President of the International Ski Federation (FIS) in 1924 and held this office until 1934.

Holmquist was a lieutenant general in the Swedish army. In his home country he was one of the pioneers in popularizing alpine skiing. From 1923 to 1950 he was President of the Swedish Association for the Promotion of Skiing and Leisure Activities and from 1923 to 1946 Vice President of the Swedish Ski Association.

When the International Ski Federation (FIS) was founded, Holmquist was elected its first president. He held this position for ten years and then handed the office over to his previous Vice President Nikolai Ramm Østgaard . When he resigned, Holmquist was elected honorary president of the association.
