Kassik studied architecture at the Estonian Art Academy from 1983 to 1987 . In 1989/90 he moved to the University of Art and Design in Halle and received his diploma in 1992.

In 1996 he succeeded in becoming one of the 30 winners of the renowned De Beers The Diamonds-International Awards 1996 ("Jewelry Oscar"). For the competition, he submitted a three-dimensional brooch made of yellow and white gold with 393 baguette and brilliant cut diamonds of 14.50 carats.
