Ivan Jachnadschiew (also written Ivan Jahnadziev , Bulgarian Иван Яхнаджиев ; born March 31, 1948 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian painter . Yachnadschiew is a pioneer of body painting in Bulgaria. He is known for his avant-garde alienated landscapes and still lifes .

Career

Yachnadschiew studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia in the class of Dobri Dobrew . He has been a painter since graduating in 1977. Yakhnajev painted abstractly and refused to paint in the style of socialist realism , which is why he was accused of imitating Western artists and was excluded from this in 1980 by Svetlin Russew , then chairman of the Association of Bulgarian Visual Artists . Despite these difficulties, he was able to assert himself on the art market and can look back on more than 100 solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions in Sofia and other Bulgarian cities, as well as in Rome and Vienna. His paintings have been acquired by the National Art Gallery of Bulgaria , the Municipal Art Gallery Sofia and the National History Museum Sofia , and are also in various private collections in Greece, USA, Finland, France, Sweden, Japan.

Today Jachnadschiew lives in Sofia, where he also runs his studio. He is currently also working as an art teacher at the Italian high school in Sofia. He paints abstract landscapes, often with formations, buildings or figures that attract the viewer's gaze. His painterly handwriting is powerful, impulsive, emotional, with quick brushstrokes he brings his subjects onto the canvas. Sometimes he uses strong colors, sometimes he plays with color nuances that are almost tone on tone. The picture is created during the painting process, whereby it never slips into too naturalistic. The reproduction of atmosphere, light, weather and surface structures is more important to him. The rendering of his motifs is strongly condensed and abstracted.

Because of his eccentric fashion outfits ("hipster grandpa"), as well as because of the body painting campaigns, Jachnadschiew regularly receives media attention.
