Izumi Tateno

Izumi Tateno ( Japanese 舘 野 泉 , Tateno Izumi ; born November 10, 1936 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese pianist .

Tateno studied at the Tōkyō Geijutsu Daigaku and is now a professor at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

After a stroke during a concert on January 9, 2002, he had to take a break for a while. Even after rehabilitation, he still suffered from paralysis on the right side of his body; Since his comeback in May 2004, he has therefore only played with the left hand. Numerous composers dedicated pieces specially tailored to his requirements. Tateno won many prizes and awards. Since September 17, 1990 he has been chairman of the Japanese Sibelius Society (日本 シ ベ リ ウ ス 協会, Nihon Shiberiusu Kyōkai ), of which he is one of the founding members.

Tateno currently operates mainly in Finland. He is widely known in Japan for the theme song he played for the television drama "Taira no Kiyomori", composed by Takashi Yoshimatsu .
