The Jägerkaserne is a barracks of the Bundeswehr in Bishop Reported district of Strub in Bavaria . It was built from 1937 and was named "Jägerkaserne" on June 17, 1967. The barracks are located on Gebirgsjägerstraße.
history
The construction of the “most beautiful barracks in the most beautiful square in the empire” began in September 1937 according to the plans of the Munich architect Bruno Biehler . The land required for the barracks area was expropriated. On November 11, 1938, the 2nd Battalion of the 100 Mountain Infantry Regiment moved into the barracks. On May 4, 1945, French and American troops occupied the barracks. It was then used to accommodate displaced persons .
On July 2, 1957, in the presence of the then Federal Minister of Defense Franz Josef Strauss , the first units of the newly established Mountain Infantry Battalion 38 (renamed Gebirgsjägerbataillon 232 in March 1959 ) moved into the barracks. On December 2, 1958, the "Sillberg" training site was opened with a teaching exercise. Part of the barracks was used by the US armed forces until the 1990s .
The mountain fighters stationed were involved in numerous missions abroad such as Somalia , the Balkans and Afghanistan , as well as in regional and supra-regional disaster operations . Most of the most successful German winter sports enthusiasts are or were stationed in the barracks and are trained there by the sports promotion group .
During the rescue operation in the giant thing shaft cave in June 2014, the camp for the emergency services and the helipad on the barracks were set up.
