Latin inscription on the tower with the coat of arms of the Bocholtz family

The Jägerturm , which stands in the south-western part of the municipality of Heere in the Wolfenbüttel district , was built in 1736 by Johann Friedrich Anton von Bocholtz (1680–1755), the cathedral capitular of Hildesheim and episcopal governor and baron.

Bocholtz had his residence at the neighboring Wohldenberg Castle and was a friend of nature and foraging. He also built the Hubertus Chapel in 1727 and 1733 below the Jägerhaus, which, like the Jägerturm and his residence, is in the forest area of the Hainberg . The hunters' tower should be a place to stay for the hunters, not a lookout or defense tower. Also, or above all, he had the tower built for his subsequent generations of hunters. The tower is octagonal and about seven meters high. It is located on the Nördlicher Jägerturmskopf ( 244  m above sea  level ) named after him .

hike

The Jägerturm can be reached from Klein Heere via a field path that emerges from Hainbergstrasse. From the outskirts, follow the uphill path in a south-westerly direction for about two and a half kilometers. You pass the edge of the forest of the Hainberg about halfway. The tower stands at the end of a short path to the west that branches off from the main path. It can also be reached from the south from the Jägerhaus, about two and a half kilometers away .

Next to the Jägerturm, which is not open to the public, there is a rest area. There is a view to the west towards Ambergau .
