Jérôme Clément (born May 18, 1945 ) is a French - Jewish lawyer , screenwriter , political scientist and president of the Franco-German TV station ARTE . He was also a member of the former board of trustees of the “ A Soul for Europe ” initiative .

Life

After studying law, he obtained a diploma in political science from the Institut d'études politiques de Paris . He worked in the Ministry of Culture, especially in the Direction de l'Architecture.

From 1980 to 1981 he was cultural and science attaché at the French embassy in Egypt . He then acted as cultural and communication advisor to the socialist politician Pierre Mauroy until 1984 . In January 1989 he became deputy general director and shortly afterwards president of the board of La Sept / ARTE France. Jérôme Clément held this position until 1998, after which he was Vice President from 1999 to 2002 under Prf. Jobst Plog . In 2003 he finally became president again.

Jérôme Clément is Commander of the Legion of Honor , Knight of the Ordre national du Mérite , Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and holder of the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . He is a member of the Senate of the German National Foundation .
