Józef Kański

Józef Kański (born October 21, 1928 in Warsaw ) is a Polish music critic .

Kański studied at the University of Warsaw from 1946 to 1948 classical philology and from 1948 to 1954 musicology with Zofia Lissa and Józef Michał Chomiński . He also studied music theory and composition with Piotr Rytel and Jan Adam Maklakiewicz and piano with Marcelina Kimontt-Jacynowa and Józef Śmidowicz at the Warsaw State Music Academy .

From 1953 to 1979 he was the editor of opera music for the Polish Radio. From 1955 he worked as a music reviewer for the magazine Trybuna Ludu , from 1966 he wrote for the English magazine Opera about opera life in Poland. In 1955 he became a board member of the program commission of the Fryderyk Chopin Society . From 1976 to 1978 he gave lectures on music criticism at the Warsaw Music Academy. He also wrote an opera guide.
