The Jewish community in Hagenbach , a French commune in the Haut-Rhin department in the Alsace region , had existed since the 18th century.
history
The Jewish community had a synagogue , a Jewish school and a ritual bath ( mikveh ). In 1844 the Jewish community of Hagenbach came to the Rabbinate Altkirch when the rabbinate districts were created . In the 19th century, the congregation employed a teacher who was both a prayer leader and a schochet .
The Jewish community in Hagenbach reached its highest number of members around 1846. By moving to the cities, the congregation was reduced to seven members in 1910.
