The Jewish cemetery Bleckede is a Jewish cemetery in the town of Bleckede in the Lower Saxony district of Lüneburg . It is a protected cultural monument .

There are 37 tombstones in the 1,414 m² cemetery , which has been preserved in its original size .

history

The cemetery was occupied from 1752 to 1935. The tombstones that were overturned during the Nazi era were put up again after 1945. In 1952 the cemetery became the property of the Jewish Trust Corporation (JTC), and in 1959 it was handed over to the State Association of the Jewish Communities of Lower Saxony .

He was desecrated three times in the 1980s. In March 2016, unknown perpetrators destroyed a large part of the graves and gravestones. 12 of the 37 tombstones were overturned, tombstones smashed and glasses with candles were thrown against the tombstones.
