history

Grounds of the cemetery

The cemetery was initially fenced in with a wall; this was replaced by a wall in 1913. The last burial took place in 1932 , and the cemetery was closed in 1939. The cemetery was desecrated during the National Socialist era . The gaps in the rows of graves still testify to this today. At that time part of the cemetery area was sold to a sawmill, so that the cemetery was only 1500 m² in size. It was repaired in 1950. As part of the land consolidation carried out in the early 1960s, the cemetery area was given its current size. The cemetery has been owned by the State Association of Jewish Communities in Lower Saxony since 1960 . The city of Rehburg-Loccum is responsible for maintenance.
