The Carouge Jewish Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in Carouge (GE) , a political municipality in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland . There are 720 graves in the cemetery on Rue de la Fontenette , which were restored in 1996/97.

history

The Jewish community members who died in Geneva were buried in the 19th century and initially until 1920 in the cemetery in Carouge, which was laid out in 1788. The first burial - a five-year-old child - was made in August 1788. In 1852 and 1873 the cemetery was enlarged. By 1920 it was full. Most recently it was also occupied by the existing Jewish community in Geneva . During the Second World War he was used again for burials. In the cemetery in Geneva on the border between France and Switzerland, burials were temporarily no longer possible.
