Jewish cemetery (Obernkirchen)
The Jewish cemetery Obernkirchen is a Jewish cemetery in the Lower Saxon town of Obernkirchen in the Schaumburg district . There are 102 tombstones in the 1,646 m² cemetery “Auf der alten Bückeburg ”.
history
In 1823 an application was made to enlarge the existing “court of death”; However, it was only approved after 1859.
In 1952 the city of Obernkirchen received almost half (1,547 m²) of the Jewish cemetery in return for a compensation payment of DM 450.
The cemetery has been owned by the State Association of Jewish Communities of Lower Saxony since 1960 .
In 1969 32 tombstones were overturned, in 2006 and 2007 the cemetery was desecrated again.
