Jewish cemetery in Wattenscheid (2017)

The Jewish cemetery of the former city of Wattenscheid , today a district of Bochum , is located on Bochumer Straße. It has existed since the 17th century. The graves were destroyed by the National Socialists in World War II and the area was used as a dumping ground for the rubble from buildings. After the end of the war, former leading National Socialists were forced to clear the cemetery grounds themselves. 21 tombstones ( mazewot ) could be secured by a stonemason. In 1972 the city of Wattenscheid erected a memorial stone in the cemetery.
