Herford Jewish cemetery
The Jewish cemetery is a listed , Jewish burial place . It is located east of the Old Cemetery on Friedhofstrasse in Herford in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
Soon after the founding of the Jewish community in 1647, the cemetery was laid out at the instigation of the noble women's monastery . The facility was last expanded in 1908. The stele from 1679 for Löbben Beer is remarkable. The large and well-preserved stock of tombstones ( mazewot ) from the 17th and 18th centuries was cleared away during the Second World War and changed again in 1960. The neo-Romanesque mourning hall is a brick building , it was built in 1909. The entrance front was simplified in 1950. Since 1989, the cemetery is in the list of monuments registered Herford town.
