In standard German, youth is a young man who is no longer a boy , but not yet an adult. In ancient Greece, the term Ephebe was used for this .

Definition of terms

The expression differs in the valuation of words like boy , pubescent or thug and older words like boy and boy .

virginity

The word youth can also be used to emphasize something pure and flawless . Until the 19th century the youth was the male counterpart to the virgin . In Japanese, the term dōtei has survived to this day. To express virginity, youth clubs were founded in many places in Germany from the beginning of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century .

art

In the fine arts, the youth is iconographically depicted as beardless (cf. Kouros ). Exemplary youthful figures in poetry are Hyperion by Hölderlin and Ferdinand in Kabale und Liebe by Schiller .
