Jürg Jecklin

Jürg Jecklin (* 1938 in Switzerland ) is a Swiss sound engineer , sound engineer and university professor (emer.).

Live and act

Jürg Jecklin worked as a sound engineer for the radio for 30 years. In 1998 he was appointed as a career changer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna , where he mainly taught the subjects of sound reinforcement and sound direction as well as recording analysis until 2016. He was in charge of developing the sound engineer degree. Since 2018 he has been the recipient of the Medal of Honor of the Association of German Tonmeister (VDT) .

Inventions

Jürg Jecklin became known worldwide through the invention of the Jecklin disc named after him . This enables a high-quality sound recording to be made in a simple manner without deletions , which optimally reproduces the original surround sound using only two microphones with omnidirectional characteristics .

He also developed the Jecklin Float , a special electrostatic headphone that improves the listening situation and makes it possible to immediately and optimally assess sound recordings in the mobile studio or in the recording room.

personality

Jürg Jecklin is considered to be a particularly "human" sound engineer who always sought contact with the artists and later also with his students during his work. He passed this attitude on to the student generations. After his retirement he missed the questions from his students, who kept giving him new food for thought.
