Jürgen B. Wolff

Jürgen B. Wolff (born 1953 in Plauen ) is a musician, graphic artist and author. Wolff and his band Folkländer were one of the founders of the GDR folk scene and the driving force behind the design of the Rudolstadt dance and folk festival . Wolff has been performing as part of the Parasol duo since the late 1980s .

Wolff completed an apprenticeship as a printer from 1970 to 1972 and obtained his Abitur at an evening school. He then studied book design at the Leipzig University for Graphics and Book Art .

Wolff first got involved musically as the leader of a singing group in Plauen. Wolff's involvement in the folk movement was formative throughout the country. The Folkländer group, which he co-founded in 1976, was one of the first and most influential groups on the scene. There he performed as a singer and at the concertina until 1984 . on. The group continued to exist. In 1986 Wolff founded the Duo Sonnenschirm together with Dieter Beckert .

Wolff was also always a scene organizer. Also in 1976 he organized the first nationwide folk workshop in Leipzig. From 1980 to 1984 the folk workshops in Leipzig developed from this. From 1978 onwards, Wolff published the first song books with forgotten German folk songs.

Wolff composed a folk opera "The Messenger of Death", which, however, was not allowed to be performed in the GDR.

Wolff was involved in the realignment of the Rudolstadt Festival after the fall of the Berlin Wall. In particular, as chief graphic artist, he was involved in a new representation and presentation of the festival.
