Jürgen Bernhardt

Jürgen Helmut Bernhardt (born July 4, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German physicist and radiation protection expert .

Bernhardt studied physics and biophysics in Munich and Frankfurt. He did his doctorate on the electrical properties of living cells. His main research interests are electromagnetic fields and their effects . At the Federal Office for Radiation Protection , he was Vice Director and Head of the Department for Radiation Protection in Medicine until 1998. He was the chairman of ICNIRP from 1996-2000 .

Bernhardt completed his habilitation in 1977 and taught at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg until his retirement . He is of the opinion that the electromagnetic fields common in everyday life do not pose a health risk.
