Jürgen Hamelmann is a former German automobile racing driver .

Career

Jürgen Hamelmann started his racing career in 1980 in the German Racing Championship (DRM). There he drove a season with a Ford Escort RS 2000 in the 2nd division. A year later he switched to a Ford Capri Turbo , with which he celebrated his greatest success in motorsport with 6th place in the DRM season. In 1982, after the DRM regulations were changed to Group C vehicles, he drove his final DRM season in a URD C81 .

Hamelmann also contested a few races in the sports car world championship in 1982 and 1983 . There he achieved in a Porsche 930 at the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring in 1983 together with Edgar Dören and Helmut Gall with 7th place and class win in Group B, his best placement in the brand world championship.

From 1983 to 1986 he drove various racing cars in the European Touring Car Championship . Starting with a Ford Escort RS 1600i in the 1st division, through a BMW 635 CSi in the 3rd division, and finally to the BMW 325i , with which he started in divisions 3 and 2 in 1986, he was able to achieve several top ten and Record top twenty placements.

He drove his last race in 1987 in the BMW M3 at the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in the World Touring Car Championship .
