Jürgen Sauer

Jürgen Sauer (born June 11, 1931 in Halle an der Saale ; † March 10, 2011 in Sinzing ) was a German chemist ( organic chemistry ). He was a professor at the University of Regensburg .

Sauer studied chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich with his doctorate in 1957 under Rolf Huisgen . He completed his habilitation in 1963. In 1968, Sauer became a full professor of organic chemistry in Regensburg, where he helped set up the chemistry faculty. From 1991 to 1993 he was Vice Rector of the university. In 1999 he retired.

In 1980, together with Gottfried Märkl and Siegfried Hünig, he received the literary prize of the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie for their book Integrated Organic Internship . The book was the result of their efforts to reform the way chemistry was taught at their universities.
