Jānis Domburs

Jānis Domburs (born June 15, 1972 in Riga ) is a Latvian journalist and television presenter.

biography

Jānis Domburs studied at the University of Latvia , but did not graduate. Since the upheavals in Latvia in 1990 he has been active as a journalist. He initially worked for the newspapers "Atmoda", "Latvijas Jaunatne", "Baltijas kurss" and for the program of Radio Free Europe . In 1994 he founded an independent information organization "Neatkarīgās informācijas un pētniecības birojs", which operated investigative journalism and which he headed until 2001.

In 1998 Domburs and Inese Voika published the unveiling book "Kurš nozaga trīs miljonus?" ( Who stole three million? ), Which dealt with financial transfers for the collapsed Banka Baltija and the privatized company Latvenergo . During this time he began his work at Latvijas Televīzija , where he directed the programs "Deviņdesmitie" and "Krustpunkti". He also worked as a freelance correspondent for the newspaper " Diena ".

Jānis Domburs gained wider attention in 2001 with the television program "Kas notiek Latvijā?" ( What is happening in Latvia? ). The magazine analyzes the political and economic events in Latvia and has become one of the most influential programs in the country. Domburs conducted interviews with almost all known politicians on the program. Jānis Domburs often moderated the political television debates in election campaigns.

For his work, Domburs has received several awards from the national radio and TV station Nacionālās and the press. The magazine "Rīgas Viļņi" recorded Jānis Domburs and his program "Kas notiek Latvijā?" 2007 with the national television award "Zelta vilnis".

Domburs also takes part in the political processes in Latvia outside of his journalistic activities, for example in the protests in the context of the so-called umbrella revolution in 2007. He was never a member of a political party and is unmarried.
