The Jŏngsŏng Street ( kor. 정성 거리, "Street of fidelity") is a main road in the North Korean city of Hamhung ( Hamgyŏng-namdo ).

history

After the Korean War , the city of Hamhŭng was rebuilt with the help of the GDR . To this end, the German working group Hamhŭng was set up and sent there. The project started in 1954 and ended early in 1962. The construction of Jŏngsŏng Street was part of the work. Initially it was called Wilhelm-Pieck-Straße (sometimes also called Wilhelm-Pieck-Allee). The planning office of the working group, which today functions as the town planning office, was also located here. After the early end of the aid, the street was given its current name. So it is a symbol of the former relations between the GDR and North Korea, which became more and more difficult over the years (see German-North Korean relations ).

Buildings

The road begins south of the city center at the Manse Bridge , which spans the Sŏnchŏn-gang River. It runs to an inner-city intersection. Many facilities and sights are concentrated at it. There is another statue of Kim Il-sung on the street . A side street connects Jŏngsŏng-Straße with Hamhŭng train station . This is also where the Hamhŭng Great Theater is located , which is the largest theater in North Korea.
