Jurmala globe

The Jūrmala-Globus ( Latvian Jūrmalas Globuss ) is a globe in the Latvian city of Jūrmala .

It is located in the district of Dzintari on the east side of the border road ( Turaidas iela ), opposite the confluence of Johmenstrasse ( Jomas iela ). Immediately to the east of the globe, the Russian Orthodox Church of the Kazan Mother of God was built in 2017/18 .

The spinning globe was created in the early 1970s. It is made of steel and copper elements and, with its diameter of two meters, is considered the largest globe in Latvia. The globe is spanned by the repeated place name Jūrmala in several spellings: Jūrmala Юрмала Jurmala . Jūrmala's twin cities are noted on the globe. In 2003 the property was restored. Another restoration was required in 2015. For this purpose, the globe was dismantled in May 2015 and rebuilt on July 23, 2016 after restoration.
