The SŽ series 363 is a Slovenian electric locomotive series for operation under 3 kV DC voltage, which was supplied to the Yugoslav State Railways as the JŽ series 363 .

construction

The SŽ 363 is closely related to the CC 6500 of the French state railway . With this it shares that of Paul Arzens designed Nez cassé wear design that many French locomotives that time. It is driven by one motor per bogie, which is followed by a multi-step gearbox (“monomotor bogie”). From there, the power reaches the individual wheel sets via cardan shafts. The locomotive thus has an overdrive that has a speed of 125 km / h as well as a slow gear for freight traffic, which increases the maximum speed to 75 with increased tractive effort km / h limited.

history

The Yugoslav State Railways ordered the mid-70s at Alsthom six-axle locomotives to operate on the 3 kV direct voltage electrified lines in the Slovenian north of the country in order to renew the outdated locomotive fleet. A total of 39 locomotives were delivered between 1975 and 1977. After the 363-002 was destroyed in an accident in October 1976 and not rebuilt, it was decided to re-occupy the vacated number with the 39th locomotive. The machines were put into service in the colors of the , yellow with brown stripes. Thanks to the multi-step transmission, they could be used flexibly in passenger and freight transport. When Yugoslavia fell apart, the machines remained completely in Slovenia due to their area of use. They are now running in red with white vertical stripes in the same service for the Slovenian State Railways . Only the 363-005 was given its original color again in 2011 as part of a general inspection.

Trivia

Due to their peculiar appearance, the locomotives were nicknamed "Brižita" based on the French actress Brigitte Bardot .
