The Kamphausen Media is a media group for publishers Aurum , J. Kamphausen , arborvitae Publishing , Lüchow , Theseus and TAO Cinematheque based in Bielefeld .
history
Joachim Kamphausen founded Context Verlag together with Uta Bodewig and Harald Gries in 1983 in Bielefeld. Initially, the company published credit card-sized overviews of foot reflexology . A short time later, the first books and an eye training program with raster glasses were published, with which Joachim Kamphausen positioned himself in the segments of spirituality, health and the conscious life. Due to a name dispute, the publisher had to be renamed in 1996 and from then on operated as J. Kamphausen Verlag & Distribution GmbH.
In 2000 the publisher secured the rights to the German translation of the book Jetzt! The power of the presence of the Canadian living German Eckhart Tolle . The book had sold over 500,000 copies in Germany alone by 2012, making it one of the most successful titles on the spiritual book market. For almost 60 weeks, "The Power of Now", as the original title was, was listed on the New York Times bestseller list .
In 2001, Joachim Kamphausen expanded the thematic spectrum of the publisher's publications with the takeover of the Aurum Verlag, which was previously based in Braunschweig . In 2009 the Lüchow and Theseus publishers , which had previously belonged to the Herder publishing house based in Freiburg im Breisgau , were added and founded the J. Kamphausen media group together with the imprints J. Kamphausen and Aurum. In December 2012, tao.de GmbH, a spin-off of the media group, was launched as a new type of self-publishing portal for authors. The media group has been operating as Kamphausen Media GmbH since November 2017.
In May 2019, the publisher Joachim Kamphausen went "into retirement" according to his own statements. The self-publishing service tao.de was also sold to tredition GmbH from Hamburg in May 2019.
Program and authors
In total, the program comprises more than 700 titles from the subjects of lifestyle, sustainable economy, ecology, spirituality and holistic healing. Kamphausen Media also produces films (Tao-Cinemathek), calendars, e-books, online courses and, in cooperation with the audio book publisher Steinbach speaking books , the audiobook series “Mastery in Life”.
