Publication history

Forerunner journals to the Journal of the Chemical Society were:

  • Memoirs and Proceedings of the Chemical Society (1843-1848, Vol. 2-3)
  • Proceedings of the Chemical Society, London (1885-1914, Vol. 1-30)
  • Proceedings of the Chemical Society, London (1914–1956, as an insert in the Journal of the Chemical Society )
  • The Quarterly Journal of the Chemical Society of London (1849–1862, Vol. 1–15)

  • Journal of the Chemical Society, Transactions (1878-1925, Vol. 33-127) and Journal of the Chemical Society, Abstracts (1878-1925, Vol. 34-128)
  • Journal of the Chemical Society (1926-1965)

In 1965 the Journal of the Chemical Society was split. According to the disciplines of chemistry, three independent journal series were created. From now on, Chemical Communications was published for unaudited short messages, replacing the journal series Proceedings of the Chemical Society :

Individual evidence

  1. Abbreviation "ns" for "new series", also "second series", an interim numbering for continuous numbering ("entire series"); In 1876 and 1877, the two-part annual volumes were no longer numbered. Vol. 29 and 30 (1876) and Vol. 31 and 32 (1877) were subsequently awarded for this purpose; From Vol. 26 (1873) the addition "of London" was dropped in the magazine title.
  2. The volumes of the Transactions have odd numbers, beginning with Vol. 33 (1878). The annually associated volumes of the abstracts have odd numbers, starting with Vol. 34 (1878).
