The J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building is the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation . The building was named after the first director of the FBI in its current form, J. Edgar Hoover . It is located in Washington, DC on Pennsylvania Avenue . The building was inaugurated on September 30, 1975.

history

Before the J. Edgar Hoover Building was built, the FBI had its offices in the Justice Department building . In 1939, however, an application was made for their own building. In 1941 the first plans for the new FBI building were presented; however, these were postponed by the Second World War . Later, in 1962, the US Congress approved the new FBI building. Its design was completed in 1964 by the architect Charles Murphy. Construction began on December 6, 1967. In 1974, the first FBI employees moved into the new building. The official inauguration did not take place until September 30, 1975 by President Gerald Ford .
