Life

Soars grew up in Arkansas. At the age of 16, he moved to South Florida in 1985, which has been his adopted home ever since.

Musically, he initially worked as a guitarist for heavy metal and rock bands, and also tried his hand at the swing genre before he discovered his preference for the blues scene and founded his own band. Soars also became a member of the blues band Southern Hospitality .

His longtime backing band Red Hots consists of Chris Peet on drums and Donald “the Cougar” Gottlieb on electric bass. Occasionally the band is expanded to include Travis Colby, piano and Hammond organ (member of Roomful of Blues until 2012 ) and Jason Ricci , harmonica, for the recording of the album More Bees with Honey .

In addition to his stylistic versatility as a guitarist, composer and arranger, his expressive singing, another specialty is his "homemade" guitar. His brother built him a voluminous-sounding instrument from a square cigar box. She is shown on the album cover of More Bees with Honey .

The album Full Moon Night in Memphis was featured in the Living Blues Radio Charts several times in autumn 2014 .

With the band JP Soars and The Red Hots , two new albums came out in May 2018 and August 2019, including Let Go Of The Reins on Whiskey Bayou Records, produced by Tab Benoit .
