J. Thomas Hörnig

Johannes Thomas Hörnig (born November 19, 1956 in Dresden ) is a German theologian and professor of Protestant theology at the Protestant University of Ludwigsburg .

Life

Thomas Hörnig was born on November 19, 1956 in Dresden. At the age of 19 he began studying social pedagogy and Protestant theology in Tübingen. After graduating, he worked as an “Ecumenical Education Assistant” at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute , the study center of the World Council of Churches. In 1990 he received his doctorate from the free Protestant faculty in Geneva with a thesis on the American Sunday School movement . His habilitation took place in 2011 with a thesis on the early history of the Inner Mission at the Church University in Wuppertal / Bethel. The work was supervised by Professors Matthias Benad and Hans-Walter Schmuhl .

From 1991 he worked as a pastor in Mühlacker -Dürrmenz. In 2001 he moved to Tübingen , where he held the university pastoral position I. He has been at the Evangelical University of Ludwigsburg since 2009, and was appointed professor on January 1, 2015.

Thomas Hörnig is married and has three children.

Teaching

Hörnig's scientific focus is on religious education , diaconal science and diversity . He is the head of the diaconal studies course and leads the deacon training at the university. His research focuses on the history of diakonia, disability history and diversity.
