JT LeRoy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeremy "Terminator" LeRoy (* allegedly October 31, 1980 in West Virginia ) is the pseudonym of an American author who first published under the name Terminator , later JT LeRoy , appeared in public only with sunglasses and a wig , as a former hustler and Issued HIV positive and whose books were considered to be autobiographically inspired. They dealt with prostitution, child sexual abuse and drug use. In October 2005, however, it was possible to prove that JT LeRoy was a hoax created by Laura Albert , that JT LeRoy is therefore neither a man nor has lived an even close vita. Rather, LeRoy was identified as Savannah Knoop, a half-sister of Albert's then partner Geoffrey Knoop.

backgrounds

Laura Albert describes JT as real. In a contribution of the arte broadcast Tracks it is reported that JT could be an identity of Laura, which was formed through years of abuse, and that she had a dissociative identity disorder . Albert reports that when she spoke to telephone counseling, she assumed a male identity in order to be able to talk about all of this. The creation of Jeremy gave her the necessary distance to talk about the abuse without having to go through it again. Albert writes the books under the pseudonym JT LeRoy and Knoop plays the role of Jeremie in public.

Critics believe that this case of literary deception is just one of many in which a supposedly dramatic vita is supposed to evoke a special credibility (cf. Boudewijn Büch , James Frey , Marek van der Jagt , Nasdijj , Ern Malley , Kathleen O'Beirne , Margaret Seltzer , Binjamin Wilkomirski , Laurel Rose Willson ).
