The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things (cross-reference: The heart is a deceitful person ) is the film adaptation of the supposedly autobiographical marketed novel 'The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things' by JT LeRoy , published in Germany under the title 'Jeremiah'. The film was shot in 2004 and directed by Asia Argento , who also starred as Sarah.
action
The film is about the relationship between drug addict mother Sarah and her son Jeremiah. Sarah spends her life with drug use, prostitution, alcohol excesses and striptease.
Sarah has many relationships with men who treat her and her son badly, and she's neglecting her son more and more, for which she uses men as an excuse. After Jeremiah was hospitalized after being raped, his grandmother picks him up from there. He lives with his grandparents in a radical Christian sect in West Virginia. Three years later, Jeremiah is now eleven years old, Sarah comes back to take him back to her. Jeremiah allows her to dress him in girl's clothes to help her with her work. Jeremiah appears as a baby doll version of Sarah in relevant clubs and finally seduces Sarah's current boyfriend Jackson, who initially tries to resist him, but then rapes him.
Angry with Jackson for giving in to her son's advances and Jeremiah for messing up her panties, Sarah leaves the place with her son.
After being in the house of Sarah's last friend, which blew up with him in it, Sarah and Jeremiah escape. After a failed attempt to steal groceries in a supermarket, Jeremiah finds something edible in a dumpster. Shortly afterwards, his mother, who is delusional at the time, persuades him to drink poison.
Jeremiah wakes up again in a hospital with his grandmother by his side. She tells him that his mother is in the psychiatric ward. But that night Sarah takes her son out of his hospital room and escapes with him in hospital clothes. The last scene shows Sarah and Jeremiah driving away in a car.
